In 2014, Akmal Zakaria met dates growers in Medina, Saudi Arabia while he was studying there in Medina.

After gaining few years of experience in the industry, Akmal was invited to a partnership with a date grower in Saudi. They partnered in the date business with the aim of sharing the top-quality dates cultivated from Medina farms, to a broader range of consumers.

In the year 2018, Aswadan Trade Sdn Bhd was established in Malaysia. The name “Aswadan” literally means “two black items” in Arabic, signifying the two basic but necessary food items for the Arabs to survive on: Dates and water.

Now we are rebranding into DUA which means Two in the Malay language that symbolizes the two basics necessity items and also everything that is created in pairs
